No Input Required: The Avengers

A bit doubtful, I was dragged to see the new Avengers movie. However,  I was completely surprised by how awesome this movie was. In fact, if you haven’t seen it…what the hell are you waiting for? You need to see this on the big screen!NickFury

The Avengers

Directed by: Josh Whedon

I’ve never been a huge fan of the comic book/superhero movies. Sure I went and saw the first couple in theaters, and sure I liked the first Spiderman and X-Men, but it seems after the Spiderman 3 – Hulk – Superman disasters I never went back. Probably if it hadn’t been for Bryan bugging me to go see this movie with him, I probably wouldn’t have seen it for several years until it was showing on regular tv. But instead last night I was waiting in a last ass line at 11:00 pm, to see this “amazing” movie.

I pretty much had the jest of what was going to happen, a bunch of superheros were going to fight together and fight each other and blah blah blah. Luckily for this movie I had recently seen Thor and Captain America, both of which had pleasantly surprised me, so I was excited to see those two again. The other thing that really drew me in was Mr. Samuel L. Jackson…with a fucking eye-patch. Any movie where he gets to be an angry asshole, normally is a winner for me.

So I’m sitting in this dark theater with this excited cheering crowd all around me and the movie starts. And shit starts blowing up. And Samuel L. Jackson is like, “I’m tired of all these muthafucking bad guys on my muthafucking planet!” (not really, but really) and kicks ass and rounds up the Avengers Team against orders. And the superheros are pissed off, full of ass-kicking power awesomeness that I can’t tear my eyes away from. And more shit blows up. And more people get their ass kicked by justice. And before I know what I’m doing, I’m really getting into the movie and by the end of it, I’m clapping and cheering with the rest of the crowd.Hulk

This movie was a lot better than I had expected. The story was good, the cast was great, and the action was better. I think they got every character right – Captain America was the good old fashion I’m-gonna-do-stuff-right guy, Iron Man was the perfect asshole, Thor was the awesome thunder god, Black Widow was a fantastic  manipulator, and the Hulk, well he smashed stuff with the just the right amount of humor. All that combined made for a wild 2 hour ride. I loved seeing the bad guys get their asses kicked, but it was enjoyable to watch the heroes fight each other as well. I think one element that was great about this hero movie, was it didn’t get junked up with any sappy love stories. There were sparks between certain characters, but nothing major and it certainly didn’t take away from any of the action.

This was definitely a great way to start out the summer blockbusters. If you’re a fan of superhero movies (or even just a fan of explosions and lots of fight scenes) you should spend the money to see this movie in theaters, it was 100% worth it.
